The Adult Enrichment Committee
The Adult Enrichment Committee plans programs in keeping with the interests
expressed by St. Peter Parishioners. Subjects include those related to
spirituality as well as others of current interest. If you have program ideas,
please let the members of this committee know about them. If you enjoy planning
and promoting programs, please accept this invitation to become a member of the
Adult Enrichment Committee. It meets at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each
month in the McEwan Center.

Community Service Committee
The focus of the Community Service Committee is social concerns, both in the
parish and in the larger community around us. Social concerns include all
activities that seek to respond to the human needs of people. The committee
contributes both personal labor and financial support to a number of
organizations working to help the less fortunate. Among the groups that receive
financial aid are the Pregnancy Distress Center, Saint Stephen’s Community
House, Pater Noster House, Hospice of Columbus and the Homeless Families
Foundation.
The following are some of the activities of the community which require the
involvement of many members working in subgroups:
- Holy Rosary/Saint John’s Food Pantry
: The
Committee coordinates the collection of food on the second Sunday of each
month and delivers the food to the pantry. A collection of envelopes generates
funds which are used to support the Learning Center located at Holy Rosary/St.
John as well as another food pantry sponsored by the Dublin Community Church.
- Home Delivered Meals
: The Committee provides
monthly support payments and also encourages parishioners to volunteer as
drivers for this project which offers meals five days a week to the elderly
and disabled in the Worthington area.
- Open Shelter
: Saint Peter is also a member of a
network running this program. On the fourth Sunday of each month two groups go
to work on behalf of the homeless men of our community. One group cooks a meal
in the McEwan Center kitchen, while the other picks it up and serves it to the
men at the shelter on West Mound Street. As many as 225 men have been served
at one time.
- Children’s Christmas
: Each year the committee
coordinates the donation of gifts (toys and clothing) for the children at the
Homeless Families Foundation and at Holy Rosary/St. John. Requests from the
families are noted on paper ornaments on Christmas trees in the church
lobbies. Parish members take the ornaments and procure, wrap, and donate the
requested items. Members of the committee organize the distribution of the
gifts to the receiving organizations.
Respect Life Sub-Committee
This sub-committee of the Community Service Committee provides information
and resources on Respect Life activities. The message of the program is that
"all human life, born or unborn, deserves respect and protection at every
stage of its existence and in every circumstance of human living." We urge
that educational programs be conducted on the dignity of human life and the
responsibility of society to protect all of its members. It is a high priority
to engage attention and mobilize the energies of our Catholic people.
Finance Committee
This appointed committee consists of five lay parishioners and the parish
priests. Each lay member serves for five years, with one term expiring each year
to maintain continuity. The primary function is to serve as advisors to the
pastor, relative to matters of finance. A parish budget is recommended to Parish
Council at the start of each fiscal year (July through June), then income and
expenses are monitored throughout the year.
The committee also considers special requests for support and makes
contributions to these within the budget allocation set aside for
"Charities" (10% of parish income). This enables the parish to respond
quickly to unexpected events and reduces the need for "Special
Collections." The purpose of this committee is to assure the availability
of adequate financial resources for the spiritual educational and community
service needs of the parish. Committee meetings are held in the odd numbered
months (excepting July). Any concerns or needs should be directed to the parish
staff.
Facilities, Buildings, and Grounds Committee
The purpose of this committee is to support all the other committees to
ensure that the proper utilization of personnel and facilities is available as
needed. The committee is concerned with parish resources, parish support and
maintenance of parish facilities.
Liturgy Committee
The Liturgy Committee is responsible for supervising the training and
coordination of liturgical ministers, for overall liturgical planing and for
making recommendations about better meeting the spiritual needs of the parish.
Among the many groups that fall under the umbrella of this committee are the
following:
Liturgical Ministries
Lectors
Ministers of the Eucharist
Ministers of Hospitality
Altar Servers
Sacristans
Seasonal Planning
Liturgy of the word
The parish cannot worship well together without the services of many
liturgical ministers. Please give careful consideration to making a
commitment of your time and talent to these important services. Except for
altar servers, liturgical ministers should have received the sacrament of
confirmation; and all liturgical ministers should be regularly practicing
Catholics. Training sessions for various ministries are scheduled at
convenient times throughout the year.
- Lectors
are needed to read clearly and distinctly
the Scriptures for Mass. They need to be willing to be scheduled for weekend
Masses. Lectors also serve at daily Masses, but these organize and supervise
themselves less formally.
- Ministers of the Eucharist
assist in the
distribution of Holy Communion at weekend liturgies. On a regular basis they
also carry the Eucharist to the sick.
- Ministers of Hospitality
welcome everyone who
attends Mass at Saint Peter on weekends, assist in taking up the collection,
and perform a variety of other tasks.
- Altar Servers
have the primary responsibility of
assisting the priest and deacon at weekend Masses. Boys or girls who are
interested in serving should be in the fourth grade or older. The parish
also schedules families (parents and their children) to serve Mass
together). The current Altar Server schedule is here.
- Sacristans
prepare the various items needed for the
celebration of the Eucharist and assist with cleansing the sacred vessels
after the liturgy.
- Seasonal planning and special projects:
The Liturgy
Committee coordinates preparations for community celebrations and liturgies
throughout the liturgical year, such as Christmas and Easter. Artists assist
with preparations of the environment, altar caretakers help maintain linens,
plants, etc.
- Liturgy of the Word with Children
: Liturgy of the
Word for Children is presently offered at the 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Masses.
Participating children in grades 1 through 6 begin Mass with their families,
respond to an invitation to listen to the Scriptures in a separate space,
and then rejoin their families for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. During the
months when the Early Childhood Program is not in session, kindergartners
are also invited to participate.
The purpose of this ministry is to proclaim the Word to children in
language that is transparent to them, and to facilitate reflection on the
Scriptures that is geared to the children’s ages and developmental
abilities. The ministry, which runs throughout the year, is staffed by a
dedicated group of volunteers, and headed by a volunteer coordinator.
Volunteers are welcomed year-round and are trained at time of entry.
Schedules are designed so as to accommodate a wide variety of time
commitments, availability and individual preferences. Periodic meetings
provide enrichment and consistency within the organization.
